Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about travel protection

General Questions

What is travel protection insurance?

Travel protection insurance helps protect your prepaid, non-refundable trip investment from unforeseen circumstances that could cause you to cancel, interrupt, or delay your trip. It provides financial reimbursement for covered losses and expenses.

Why do I need travel protection?

One in six travelers experience unforeseen circumstances that can result in a cancelled or delayed trip. Travel protection provides peace of mind and financial protection for your vacation investment, covering over 30 different types of unforeseen events.

Who is eligible for coverage?

Coverage is available for USA residents traveling domestically or internationally. International residents can access coverage through a separate process. CFAR (Cancel For Any Reason) coverage is not available to residents of New York.

Vacation Rentals

Does travel insurance cover Airbnb cancellations?

Yes. Travel insurance reimburses your prepaid, non-refundable Airbnb stay when you cancel for a covered reason — illness, injury, family emergency, weather, job loss, and 30+ others. Add Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) for partial reimbursement on cancellations not on the covered list.

What if my Airbnb host cancels at the last minute?

Travel insurance can reimburse the difference if your host cancels and a comparable replacement rental costs more, plus non-refundable trip costs that no longer make sense (flights, tours, etc.). AirCover from Airbnb only covers your booking refund — it doesn't make you whole on the trip around it.

Does travel insurance cover VRBO cancellations?

Yes. The same covered reasons that apply to any prepaid trip — illness, hurricane, job loss, family emergency — apply to VRBO bookings. CFAR adds partial reimbursement when you cancel for reasons outside that list.

Is AirCover enough, or do I need separate travel insurance?

AirCover is host-side and platform-limited: it covers your Airbnb refund, not your flights, your tours, your medical emergency, or a hurricane evacuation. Travel insurance covers the trip, not just the booking.

What happens if my vacation rental becomes uninhabitable?

If a covered event — fire, flood, hurricane damage — makes your rental uninhabitable, travel insurance can reimburse the unused prepaid cost and reasonable additional accommodations. Some policies also cover mandatory hurricane evacuations from your destination.

Is travel insurance worth it for a vacation rental?

For most vacation-rental travelers: yes. AirCover and credit-card coverage have gaps that show up exactly when you need them most — medical emergencies abroad, named hurricanes, family emergencies, and the prepaid trip costs around the rental itself.

Coverage Questions

What's the difference between Standard and CFAR coverage?

Standard Coverage provides 100% reimbursement for over 30 specified covered reasons, such as illness, weather, job loss, or family emergencies.

CFAR Coverage includes everything in Standard coverage PLUS the ability to cancel for ANY reason and receive 60% reimbursement, even if the reason isn't covered by the standard policy.

What are some examples of covered reasons?

Covered reasons include: sickness, injury, or death of you or a traveling companion; weather-related disruptions; hurricanes and natural disasters; flight cancellations; job loss; death in the family; road closures; family pet death; medical emergencies; accidents; terrorist incidents; and many more. See your policy for the complete list.

Does coverage include medical expenses?

Yes, both Standard and CFAR coverage include medical emergency coverage, which can reimburse medical expenses for injury or illness during your trip, provide emergency medical evacuation, and help locate appropriate medical facilities. 24/7 travel assistance is also available.

What is group coverage?

Group coverage protects up to 20 travelers in your party with a single policy at one low price. You don't need to list all travelers individually — the coverage automatically applies to everyone, making it convenient and affordable for families and groups.

Purchasing Questions

How do I get a quote?

Getting a quote is quick and easy. Visit our quote page and provide basic information about your trip: travel dates, destination, and trip cost. You'll receive instant pricing for both Standard and CFAR coverage options.

When should I purchase coverage?

Standard coverage can be purchased anytime up to 24 hours before your scheduled check-in, regardless of when you booked your trip. However, we recommend purchasing as early as possible to maximize your protection. Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) coverage must be purchased within 14 days of your initial trip deposit. The no cost pre-existing medical conditions waiver also requires purchase within 14 days of booking.

How quickly will I receive my policy?

You'll receive your policy documents immediately via email after completing your purchase. The process is quick and secure, and you can access your policy documents at any time.

Can I review a sample policy before purchasing?

Yes. You can review a sample policy before making your purchase. This allows you to understand the terms, conditions, and coverage details before committing to a policy.
